IT Business Manager Certification (ITBMC)

The IT Business Manager Certification (ITBMC) was developed and endorsed by Belmont University's MBA program and MDE Enterprises, Inc. (Mike Sisco) to provide an IT manager certification that reflects practical operational management of technology resources. Belmont validates the educational value of the program and MDE validates the practical application of the material as it is based upon more than 20 years of actual IT management leadership and in working with hundreds of companies and thousands of IT managers and CIO's. The certification was created because there was nothing available that focuses on the business aspects of managing technology resources. Most certifications still focus on technology, not operational management best practices. We also wanted to provide more of a "how to" approach that gets to the point of what is required to manage IT effectively.

To receive your ITBMC, there are two prerequisites:

  1. Attend Mike Sisco's IT Manager Institute to gain a foundation of knowledge and tools on how to manage technology resources effectively.
  2. Pass a 5-part ITBMC exam to acknowledge an understanding of the IT Manager Institute course and materials.

Each part of the 5-part exam must be passed to gain your certification. Passing grade is 80% for each part and there are 20 questions in each part. The parts of the exam are:

  • Part 1 - IT Assessment
  • Part 2 - IT Strategy and Planning
  • Part 3 - Project Management
  • Part 4 - IT Organization and Staff
  • Part 5 - Financials

The exam may be taken at any time after attending the IT Manager Institute. The exam is  provided at the end of each class and you may also take it days or weeks later. It is open book and there is no time limit in taking the exam. You may retake any part of the class that is not passed until all five parts are passed. Once all five parts are passed, you will be issued an ITBMC certificate acknowledging your achievement and giving you the ability to include ITBMC or Certified IT Business Manager with your name in correspondence, etc.
